Experienced, trained tutors
Tutors are carefully selected, trained in MfSF’s approach and have the required safeguarding checks in place. Schools benefit from a consistent, professional service.
Affordable and accessible for families
As a charity, MfSF aims to keep costs low. Families can access instrument options and lesson resources through simple packages and we offer reduced-price support for pupils eligible for Pupil Premium.
Fun, small-group teaching
Pupils learn in mixed-instrument groups where possible. It keeps energy high, supports listening skills and helps children feel part of something from the first few weeks. Backing tracks and ensemble activities keep lessons engaging and performance-ready.

Windstars for KS1
Windstars is a specially designed programme for Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, offering a fun and accessible introduction to instrumental music.
Using child-friendly instruments (Toot and Dood), pupils can start playing straight away, building confidence and early musical skills through engaging lessons.
The programme is fully managed by us, including enrolment, communication and payments, so there’s no extra admin for school staff. It’s an affordable, inclusive way to introduce more pupils to music at an earlier stage, with a clear pathway into full-size brass and woodwind tuition in KS2.

Brass and Woodwind for KS2
Our small-group brass and woodwind lessons give KS2 pupils the opportunity to learn an instrument in a fun, structured and supportive environment.
Children learn on full-size instruments including flute, clarinet, saxophone, cornet and trumpet, building confidence, musical progress and enjoyment along the way.
MfSF manages the entire programme, including enrolment, communication, payments and lesson organisation, making it a simple, low-admin way to bring high-quality music tuition into your school.

We confirm the start date with school and parents. Our tutors deliver the lessons in line with the agreed timetable, with MfSF remaining on hand to support families and tutors.

FAQs
What does school need to organise each week?
Very little. Schools simply need to provide a suitable space for lessons and help pupils arrive on time. Tutors manage the teaching and lesson content, and we take care of administration, payments and communication with families.
We’ll share teaching dates in advance and work with the school to keep everything running smoothly with minimal disruption to the school day.
How much time does the school need to spend on this?
Once lessons are set up, the ongoing time commitment for schools is minimal. We handle enrolment, payments, tutor coordination and parent communication, while tutors manage the lesson content themselves.
Schools mainly support by helping with room access and pupil movement during lesson times. We aim to keep the process simple and flexible, fitting around the school day rather than adding to workloads.
What space do you need for lessons?
Lessons work best in a quiet, safe space where pupils can focus, such as a small classroom, meeting room or practice room. The space doesn’t need to be large, just suitable for small group teaching.
We’re happy to work with whatever space is available in school and can be flexible to fit around other activities where needed.
How do payments work?
Lesson payments are managed directly by MfSF and collected from parents by Direct Debit. Schools do not handle any payments or money.
Parents choose from different lesson and instrument package options, some of which include an introductory period or free lessons. Reduced lesson prices are available for pupils eligible for Pupil Premium.
All payment arrangements are handled centrally, keeping the process straightforward for schools.
What about safeguarding and DBS checks?
Safeguarding is a priority for us. All tutors are fully DBS checked and receive safeguarding guidance as part of their work with us. Lessons take place on school premises and in line with the school’s own safeguarding procedures at all times.
We work closely with schools to ensure clear communication and appropriate supervision arrangements are in place, and our full safeguarding policy is available here.
Can this work for pupils with SEND?
All pupils are welcome to try lessons. We have an all-inclusive policy and our tutors will be supportive of any child that expresses an interest in music.
Communication is important though – we ask for as much information as possible so that our tutors can tailor their approach to the individual child. We can adapt our group sizes (including offering individual lessons), plus if you would like a Teaching Assistant to be present in lessons, this is fine too.
What happens if pupil numbers are low?
We understand that pupil numbers can vary, especially when a programme is new. We’ll work closely with the school to monitor numbers and explore ways to increase interest, such as adjusting groupings or promoting lessons at a later point.
If numbers remain too low to be viable, we’ll discuss the next steps with the school and agree the best way forward. Our aim is always to be flexible and find a solution that works for everyone.
Do we have to have lessons during curriculum time?
We understand that schools may have reservations about taking children out of class time. Whilst most of our lessons do take place during the school day, we do have lots of flexibility in our timetabling.
Lessons times are based on the number of pupils in the group – so smaller groups would mean shorter lessons. Plus, we can organise rotating timetables either on a weekly or half termly basis so that the times of pupils’ lessons can vary.
Of course, we are always happy to discuss individual pupil and timetable requirements, and in some cases, tutor timetable permitting, lessons at lunch time or after school may be available.
